The thirtieth obstetric week of pregnancy is a great achievement and still a long way to go.

    1. The baby in the womb is practically a formed human being with certain skills and reactions, and,
    2. It’s time to go on maternity leave, but,
    3. Lastly, labor is coming soon!

    38 cm (1'25 ft.)

    Fetal Development, Weight and Height

By 30 weeks of gestation, the future baby has come a long way in its. It already weighs between 1300-1500 grams and is about 38 cm tall. Having such a size, it is starting to get cramped in the mother’s belly, and the baby rarely turns over, but moves their hands and feet, putting out elbows and knees, and sticking out their butt. A pregnant woman should closely monitor the movements of her baby, so that if necessary, she can call for help immediately.

By 30 weeks, the baby is fully formed respiratory and immune systems, limbs, genitals, eyes open, working their own system of thermoregulation. Active development of the nervous system and the brain continues. It increases in volume, the first gyrations and fissures appear. According to studies, the future baby is already capable of remembering.

What Happens to the Baby and the Mother?

A woman preparing to become a mother soon should already know to give the baby her attention: talk to them, sing songs and tell tales, caress her belly. Benefit from listening to calm, classical music. In 30 weeks, most pregnant women go on maternity leave. It is advisable to use this time to your advantage – to rest as much as possible, to have pleasant walks in nature, to prepare all the supplies for the baby, and, if she has not started yet, to begin to prepare for childbirth.

Usually, special courses are organized at antenatal clinics. They talk about the periods of childbirth, how to survive the contractions, how to push properly, and how to take care of the newborn baby. There you can also get interesting information on how to establish breastfeeding and how it works as well. In addition, such courses often give you a rough list of things you might need in the maternity hospital. After all, in order not to bring and pack too much – it’s better to know a bit about what you may need in advance. If, for whatever reason, a woman cannot attend a course, they should at least study some of the information on the Internet.

    Ultrasound Scans at 30 Weeks

Recommendations for the expectant mother are the same as before:

    • Try not to be nervous,
    • Rest several times a day in a horizontal position,
    • Wear shoes with non-slip soles and no heels,
    • Wear clothes that do not restrict movement and do not squeeze the growing belly,
    • Eat right, small portions several times a day,
    • Walk, and
    • Try to stay positive and happy.

It is still just as important to carefully monitor your well-being. Abnormal discharge from the genital tract or intense cramping-like pain arising with a certain frequency should be a reason to immediately call the ambulance.

Ultrasound appointments at 30 to 32 weeks should be regularly scheduled for check ups. At this term, the doctor evaluates the weight and growth of the fetus, as well as the condition of its organs. The uterus is also evaluated: the height of its stature and size, and the condition of the myometrium. The degree of maturity of the placenta and the amount of water should also be measured. If at 30 weeks the fetus is still in a breech position, it is not a cause for concern. With the help of special exercises, a pregnant woman can help it turn over.

What the Tummy looks like at 30 Weeks

The third trimester has long started, the belly is big enough, the expectant mother is very tired, and the delivery is at hand – all these circumstances indicate that now is the best time to suspend your work activities and start your leave.

However, do not go to extremes:

    • Do not go on maternity leave, to vigorously immerse yourself in chores and your home – to arrange repairs, dig up the garden, and so on – or,
    • Do not go on maternity leave, to completely stop all physical exertion and activities just to sleep.

Extremes are not necessary. Still walk as much as you can in the fresh air, do not forget to sleep during the day, and do the household chores that lift your spirits and increase your self-confidence.
